Photobucket seems to be inaccessible at the moment, so all my links have broken, and no videos available! The photos posted direct from my computer are still visible (above, Princess Ida and Prince Imrahil). I hope this isn't going to last long!

Rats!/Flûte!

I've done it again! They say it's easier to tell the sex just after the kittens are born, but mine are contrary - it's a few days later that the gender becomes apparent! I had my suspicions about "Casilda", being so big, but when I weighed them today and found that the Chocolate Smoke was 201 grammes - at 4 days! - I turned the kitten over and looked again under the tail. I SWEAR there was nothing to be seen until today, but now, there's no doubt about it - HE's a little bloke! Darn it, got to find another name now.... The Bi-colour will be Phoebe, I've decided.

Mince, je me suis de nouveau gourée... on dit qu'il est plus facile de déterminer le sexe des chatons juste après la naissance, mais les miens font exception à la règle - c'est quelques jours plus tard qu'ils dévoilent leur jeu! Déjà je soupçonnais "Casilda", étant si énorme; ce soir, en les pesant, j'ai vu que le Chocolate Smoke faisait 201 grammes. J'ai regardé sous la queue, et ... Je vous jure, il n'y avait aucun signe jusqu'à maintenant, mais il n'y a plus de doute - c'est un petit mec! Il va falloir lui inventer un nom à présent... La Bicolore sera Phoebe, j'ai décidé.

Day 2/Jour 2

Well, in daylight yesterday, and on closer examination, all three kittens appear to be chocolate of different varieties, especially on examination of the little paw-pads; and at present all appear female. I often find it hard to determine the sex at first, and even my vet has sometimes hesitated, so I don't make any categorical statement about that for a while!
As for the varieties, it appears that the first is Tabby, the second Self, probably Smoke because of the "spectacles", and the third BiColour, also probably Smoke (with "spectacles"). The first two had gained weight satisfactorily after 24 hours, the BiColour had put only only 2 grammes, so needs watching.
A la lumière du jour hier, les trois chatons paraissaient Chocolat, trois variétés, surtout en examinant les petits coussinets. J'ai souvent de la difficulté à déterminer les sexes au début, et même mon vétérinaire a parfois hésité. Pour cette raison, je ne me permets pas d'être catégorique sur ce sujet les premiers jours! Pour l'instant, je penche pour trois femelles.
Quant aux variétés, il y a 1 Tabby, 1 Self, apparemment Smoke à cause des "lunettes", 1 BiColore, également avec "lunettes", donc Chocolate Smoke/White, comme la mère. Les deux premières ont bien pris du poids au terme des 1ers 24 heures, mais la BiColore a pris seulement 2 grammes - à surveiller.

Bonnie Maman!

Between 18h45 yesterday and 00h25 this morning, Bonnie gave birth to three splendid kittens! The first is a little female, Black Silver Tabby, the others, probably both male, look Smoke, either Black or Chocolate, one Self, one Bi-color, but that is to be confirmed. Bonnie is looking after them wonderfully well, and the kittens all seem healthy and contented.

Entre 18h45 hier et 00h25 ce matin, Bonnie a eu trois splendides chatons. La première est Black Silver Tabby; les deux autres probablement des mâles, ont l'air Smoke, Noir ou Chocolat, un Self, l'autre Bi-color - à confirmer. Bonnie s'en occupe merveilleusement bien, et les chatons ont l'air sain et heureux.

Demelza

Brutal shock. My little Demelza died, on returning from the emergency vet; I had found her inert and hyopothermic this morning. The vet did what she could, but from the first was pessimistic. The kitten was fine yesterday, showing no symptoms at all. There will be an autopsy, and in the meantime, the other kittens are under close observation.

Ma petite Demelza est morte ce matin. Je l'avais trouvée inerte, molle, hypothermique (en dessous de 32°). La véterinaire de garde a fait ce qu'elle a pu, mais dès le début, elle était pessimiste. La chatonne était bien hier, aucun symptôme, aucun signe de problème. On fera faire une autopsie, et en attendant, les autres chatons seront sous observation.

C'est trop brutal, je n'arrive pas à encaisser.
